The Design—Crochet Sweater Pattern
If a refined crochet texture is what you're looking for, look no further. The Obelisk Pullover features a unique striped knit-like ribbing texture throughout and classic knit-like 1x1 ribbing to complete the design for a truly classic and luxurious heirloom sweater to add to your cold-weather wardrobe—one you'll reach for for years to come!
The sweater is constructed bottom-up by making two panels—a front and back panel, then seaming them together at the shoulders and sides. Then, adding the collar, bottom hem ribbing, sleeves, and cuffs.

Fit + Sizing
The Obelisk Pullover has an oversize classic fit with a slight crop. It features bands of texture throughout, straight sleeves for sizes XS-M and slightly tapered sleeves for sizes L-3XL, and 1x1 knit-like ribbing along the bottom hem, cuffs, and fold-over collar. Sizing is based on Craft Yarn Council's standards.
It is designed to have a positive ease of 8.5-11.5". To select your size, measure your bust and find the garment circumference in the chart that matches approximately 8.5-11.5" larger. If you prefer to have more or less ease, select the garment circumference that reflects that number in inches compared to your measured bust in inches. I have a 34" bust and am wearing a size small for 9" of ease.
Size | Bust Circum. | Garment Circum. |
XS | 28-30" | 38.5" |
S | 32-34" | 43" |
M | 36-38" | 48" |
L | 40-42" | 51" |
XL | 44-46" | 55.5" |
2XL | 48-50" | 59" |
3XL | 52-54" | 63.5" |

Skill Level
advanced | I consider this pattern advanced due to the variety of techniques and stitches involved, ribbing stitches, fold-over collar, and multidirectional construction.
Materials
As written, you'll need category 4 worsted weight yarn in the amounts of:
1434(1651, 1826, 1985)(2164, 2434, 2630) yds [1311(1510, 1670, 1815)(1979, 2226, 2405) m]
Other materials you'll need:
G-6 (4 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hooks
tapestry needle
scissors
st markers (optional)
Gauge
15.2 sts x 12.4 rows = 4" square (blocked)
Yarn Substitutions
I recommend WeCrochet Swish Worsted for this project, which is a 100% fine superwash merino wool, but many worsted weight yarns can be substituted. I always recommend going with the same or similar fiber content if you want your project to turn out as close to my sample as possible, but I've included a few other options below, as well. You can also check out Yarn Sub. Make sure you make a gauge swatch. Small differences in gauge can lead to big differences in project outcome. For more on gauge, you can read this blog.
WeCrochet Wool of the Andes (also in Tweed and Superwash)
WeCrochet High Desert (also in bare/undyed and Tweed)
