Introducing The Coastal Pullover. This sweater is a slouchy sweater that fits + feels like your favorite sweatshirt. This sweater is a simple make and can be easily customized for the perfect fit preference. It's a perfect sweatshirt to slip over your favorite swim suit for a cool day at the beach, or the perfect comfy sweatshirt for errands on a casual Saturday morning.

The Design

This sweater is labeled as an advanced beginner level sweater. It's helpful to have made a garment before, but not absolutely necessary in order to attempt or tackle this project. It is worked from the bottom up, creating two square panels (a front and back), seaming them together, adding a simple edging to the neckline and bottom hem, and finally, attaching sleeves and finishing off with the cuffs.

Fit + Sizing

The Coastal Pullover has a roomy, boxy fit, drop shoulders, crew neck, mid-length, and wide sleeves. Sizing is based on Craft Yarn Council's standards.

It is designed to have a positive ease of 8-10". To select your size, measure your bust and find the garment circumference in the chart that matches approximately 8-10" larger. If you prefer to have more or less ease, select the garment circumference that reflects that number in inches compared to your measured bust in inches.

Yarn Substitutions:

Sugarwheel Cotton is labeled as a category 3 DK weight yarn. If planning to substitute a yarn, you could easily get away with using a number of DK weight yarns, and some sport weight yarns. I highly recommend making sure you make a gauge swatch. Small differences in gauge can lead to big differences in project outcome. For more on gauge, you can read this blog.

  • WeCrochet CotLin DK | If you're looking for a light, cotton yarn for this project, this would be a great choice. It is a tanguis cotton and linen blend that is quite durable, is easy care, and softens well with wash and wear. It also comes in lots of beautiful colors. Just keep in mind this yarn is a slight bit more narrow than the one I used.

  • WeCrochet Brava (sport) | This is an economy acrylic yarn that is actually quite soft and drape-y (especially after steaming or blocking/washing). It's easy to care for and comes in a lot of colors, including a fair number of dusty shades and earthy colors. If you're looking for a non-cotton economy yarn substitute, I would probably recommend this one.

  • Lion Brand Coboo DK | This cotton bamboo blend is a really drape-y, cool-on-the-skin yarn, that would make a great summer sweater or transitional season sweater.

  • We Are Knitters The Cotton | I have never personally worked with this cotton yarn, but I hear that it's a dream. It is a 100% Pima cotton from Peru that is labeled a sport/DK weight. The color selections are gorgeous, and there's even a speckled variety that would be stunning to try.
