The Design—Crochet Sweater Coat Pattern

This crochet jacket is the perfect layering companion for your Fall wardrobe—adding warmth and style. It features bold chunky ribbing, a wide collar, and shoulder shaping. The loop and toggle closure is the crowning finish for this classic-meets-modern piece.

The jacket is constructed side-to-side by making two panels—a front and back panel, then seaming them together at the shoulders and sides. Then, adding the collar and sleeves.

Fit + Sizing

The Sur Jacket has a comfortable fit, not too oversized and not too fitted that you can't layer pieces beneath it. It features a straight body, long tapered sleeves shaped by short rows, ribbed texture, and wide collar. Bottom hem and cuffs are worked into the panels and sleeves while the collar is applied. Sizing is based on Craft Yarn Council's standards.

It is designed to have a positive ease of 4-8.5" (10-22 cm). To select your size, measure your bust and find the garment circumference in the chart that matches approximately 4-8.5" (10-22 cm) larger. If you prefer to have more or less ease, select the garment circumference that reflects that number in inches compared to your measured bust in inches. I have a 34" bust and am wearing a size small for 5.5" of ease.

Gauge

Yarn

The yarn I used is WeCrochet Fluff of the Andes with a wpi of 4 and consisting of 100% highland wool. When/if substituting yarn, make sure you make a gauge swatch. Small differences in gauge can lead to big differences in project outcome. For more on gauge, you can read this blog. You can also use yarnsub.com to help you find substitutions.
